چکیده
Endocervical curettage (ECC) is the procedure which involves circumferential scraping of the endocervical canal with a curette. Some colposcopists prefer to perform ECC in all colposcopic examinations of nonpregnant women, even though the colposcopic findings are normal and the entire transformation zone can be visualized. They believe that ECC performance can avoid missing of an occult preinvasive and invasive cervical cancers in the endocervical canal (Ferenczy, 1995; Pretorius et al., 2004; Puntachai et al., 2011; Schneider et al., 2012; ShacoLevy et al., 2013). On the other hand, other colposcopists suggest that ECC is an unnecessary procedure and should be done only in selected cases (Massad and Collins, 2003; Solomon et al., 2007; Gage et al., 2010). The Anal Pap Smear: Cytomorphology of squamous intraepithelial lesions
BACKGROUND: Anal smears are increasingly being used as a screening test for anal squamous intraepithelial lesions (ASILs). This study was undertaken to assess the usefulness and limitations of anal smears in screening for ASILs. METHODS: The cytomorphological features of 200 consecutive anal smears collected in liquid medium from 198 patients were studied and findings were correlated with resul...
متن کاملSignificance of the Cytological Signs of Human Papillomavirus Infection in Anal Pap Smears of Human Immunodeficiency Virus-Infected Japanese Men Who Have Sex with Men
Purpose: The incidence of invasive anal cancer (IAC) has been increasing among human immunodeficiency virus (HIV)-positive men who have sex with men (MSM). Although cytological diagnosis is the modality of choice for screening cases of IAC, it is associated with lower sensitivity and specificity. Therefore, the present study aimed to evaluate new cytological signs of human papillomavirus (HPV) ...

متن کاملEvaluation of Low-Grade Squamous Intraepithelial Lesions, Cannot Exclude High-Grade Squamous Intraepithelial Lesions on Cervical Smear
Background : We examined cervicovaginal smears that contained definite low-grade squamous intraepithelial lesion (LSIL) cells and rare atypical cells suggestive of high-grade SIL (HSIL) (ASC-H) or contained borderline dysplastic cells between LSIL and HSIL. Such lesions were classified as LSIL-H. This study aimed to investigate the cytologic and histologic characteristics of LSIL-H category and...
